A career prosecutor, not a politician, Anne Donnelly took on the author of New York’s
dangerous “cashless bail” law in her 2021 bid for District Attorney, and she scored a victory for
law-abiding Nassau residents. Since then, District Attorney Anne Donnelly has made Nassau
the safest county in the nation as a tough-on-crime prosecutor focused on protecting your
family’s safety. Under DA Donnelly’s leadership, murderers, rapists, shoplifters, gang members,
drunk drivers, and violent criminals have been put behind bars, and major crime is down.
Immediately upon taking office in 2022, DA Donnelly formed a team of experienced prosecutors
and law enforcement officials, including a former police commissioner, to combat crime in
Nassau. Together, they’ve secured hundreds of tough sentences, including for the attempted
murder of Nassau County police officers, fatal MS-13 gang shootings, and a spree of robberies
on the North Shore. DA Donnelly’s team also dismantled a major narcotics ring, stopping the
flow of drugs into local neighborhoods, and partnered with federal law enforcement agencies to
take dozens of violent gang members off the streets. Committed to uncovering the truth in
unsolved crimes, DA Donnelly played an instrumental role in the investigation of the notorious
Gilgo Beach serial killer case, while also securing a conviction in a 1968 cold case murder and
resolving four others from the early 1970s. The District Attorney has prioritized delivering justice
for Nassau’s most vulnerable, including animals, and is proud to have put abusers behind bars.
In addition to ensuring dangerous criminals are kept off the streets, DA Donnelly has partnered
with police to address and reverse the root causes of crime. For example, in response to the
rise of illegal guns entering the county, she established the Firearm Suppression Unit and
launched the Cyber Crimes and Pharmaceutical Unit to fight the sale of illegal drugs over the
internet—a major factor in the opioid epidemic. DA Donnelly has also increased funding for hate
crime prevention and expanded community education efforts to reach more students in schools.
DA Donnelly has earned a reputation as one of the strongest voices standing up for law-abiding
citizens as some extreme politicians put criminals first. She has called for the repeal of
“Cashless Bail” laws that release killers, rapists, and gang members from jail, along with the
repeal of the “Clean Slate” law that erases criminal records. Most importantly, DA Donnelly has
never backed down in her support for the men and women in law enforcement who are on the
front lines of the battle against crime every day.
Before being elected District Attorney, Donnelly dedicated 32 years to fighting crime in the
Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, most recently as Deputy Bureau Chief of the
Organized Crime & Rackets Bureau. She successfully prosecuted complex murder-for-hire
cases, narcotics traffickers, and investigations into the sale and distribution of counterfeit
electronics, one of which resulted in the largest asset forfeiture in Nassau County history. In her
role as Deputy Bureau Chief, Donnelly also oversaw the prosecution of all internet and
computer-related crimes and developed the office’s “S.T.O.P. Then Send” program to educate
children and teenagers about internet safety.
A Nassau County native, DA Donnelly is a graduate of Fordham University and Fordham Law
School. She resides in Garden City with her family.
